Knowing Your Numbers: The Missing Piece in Your Pricing Strategy
april 6, 2026There's something I say all the time: know your numbers.
What I mean is you want to know what's coming in, what's going out, and what's actually yours at the end of the day.
I see a lot of entrepreneurs (especially coaches) focusing on revenue alone. The βI made 5K this month in this launch, or I hit 10K" blah blah blah. Great. Happy for you!
But, here's the thing, that number is not nearly as exciting as your net profit. What are you taking home after all your expenses? How much are you paying yourself? THOSE are the real numbers that matter.
Because revenue alone doesn't tell you if your business is actually supporting you. If money is coming in, but you still don't know your expenses, or you're not paying yourself consistently, or you feel stressed every single time you look at your accounts and spreadsheets β¦ it's time to shift.
You might not have a pricing problem per say. You might have a numbers avoidance problem. π
Let's work on that. Knowing your numbers β looking at them, dissecting them, examining them β is about clarity.
I'm going to tell it to you straight. You cannot price confidently if you don't know your numbers. If you don't keep track of it all. That's one of the biggest pieces of running a sustainable business.
When you hope and guess and go on vibes alone β¦ that just won't work long-term. And you're in this business for the long run, right? You want to succeed and build something lasting, yeah?
I want you to feel:
grounded when you set your prices
clear when you look at your offers
calm when money comes in (and goes out)
Yes, I believe every single entrepreneur deserves to get paid (well), but I also believe you need know your shit, and by that I mean your numbers.
Your numbers aren't scary, they're supportive. They show you what's working, what needs to shift, and where you can build a business that actually fits your lifestyle.
Here's a look at my real numbers from one of my many years in business back when I was a designer and muralist full time. For full transparency, this was my best year so far in business, but you can see how I took home a hell of a lot less than the revenue I made. I calculated these numbers through looking at my βmega money tracking" spreadsheet and my Schedule C in my taxes.
This is your reminder: get intimate with your numbers.
Look at them, track them, understand them. Not perfectly, just consistently.
Because when you know your numbers inside and out, you stop guessing your business and start confidently leading it.
If you're looking for immediate pricing support to get your shit together and organize your offers, here's what I suggest:
